Northwest Travel & Life Magazine: Brand New Bend

26 08 2022

Sure, everybody knows about Bend. It might just be the most “Oregon” place in Oregon. Between that rugged and alluring landscape, year-round outdoor activities, and dining and lodging options that range from rustic to royal, it’s a deservedly well-known destination. But have you been in the last 5 years? The last year? Heck, the last 6 months? Bend is a town with a seemingly never-ending procession of new and inventive things to eat and drink, places to stay, and things to do. With that in mind, here’s a sample itinerary to help you experience just some of what might be new to you. Click here to read the story.

Northwest Travel & Life Magazine: Old Highway 99 Road Trip

11 01 2022

Up until the completion of Interstate 5, Route 99 was the main north-south highway running the length of America’s west coast, from Mexico to Canada. In the Northwest, much of that old route still exists. And while it might not be as efficient with regard to driving time as I-5, its winding path through Oregon wine country from Portland to Eugene showcases the best the Willamette Valley has to offer – and makes for a spectacular road trip! Let me tell you about it here.

Sip Magazine: Ask the Pros – What producer should be on our radar right now, and why?

20 03 2020

Also in the new Sip Magazine, I wrote the inaugural piece for a new column called “Ask the Pros.” This was a fun one! I asked Whitney Burnside from 10 Barrel Brewing Company, Brad Ford from Illahe Vineyards, Sommelier, Courtney Smith, Camille Cavan from Quaintrelle, and Mike Huffman from Whidbey Island Distillery – What producer should be on our radar right now, and why? Here’s what they said.

Sip Magazine: Craft Kitchen – When Beer and Quality Eats Unite

18 03 2020

My first feature for Sip Magazine is about the best Brewpub food and beer pairings around the region. From the story: “Wine pairs with food. As sure as the sun rises and sets, this publication and countless others exist, due in part to our acknowledgment and appreciation of this time-honored fact. While the craft brewing industry might not be as broadly recognized for it, the art of pairing food with beer has been coming into its own for years now.”
