My latest for 1889 Magazine is a bit of a departure for me subject-wise. I’ve never covered art before, but a recent trip to Whidbey Island inspired me to be a little more inspired by art. And more often than not, the artists themselves. Sue Taves was one of many amazing artists I visited with and you can read her story in the issue that’s on newsstands now, or click here to read the pdf version.

1859 Magazine: Po’Shines – Nourishing the Community’s Soul
13 11 2018When I first started going to Po’Shines, it was because it was one of the best restaurants in North Portland. When the soul food eatery opened, it immediately became a favorite haunt for Kenton residents, followed quickly by the rest of town. But when I learned what was happening behind the pass, besides the best chicken & waffles around, it made me want to champion their cause even more. My latest for 1859 Magazine tells the story. Pick it up on newsstands now or click here to read the pdf version.
