So I decided to branch out a little bit and create a YouTube channel. Here is my first video, essentially an introduction. I plan on taking videos of all the wonderful places and things I get to see, do, and consume in the Northwest. Please check it out and if you’re into it, please subscribe. Thanks!

“What’s the Soup?” Review: St Honore Boulangerie
6 11 2012My latest write up for What’s the Soup is about the St Honore Bakery in NW Portland. There are no big cooking stoves at St Honore. Instead, soups are made from scratch, by using their one and only bread oven. First, they slow-roast or braise vegetables and meats in the oven, typically for 2 to 3 hours. This process not only makes the ingredients tender but brings out their natural sweetness and flavors, giving soups richer and more complex notes. Ingredients are then carefully mixed together and cooked in the oven, slowly. The end result is an offering of soups that contain true depth and honest richness. Read the whole article here.

Picture of the Week: Fall Hiking
5 11 2012Fall hiking in the Northwest is special. There is of course the smattering of oranges, reds, and yellows that appear thanks to our deciduous friends. But there are also the rich, bright, and occasionally florescent greens of the mosses and lichens that re-emerge thanks to the return of rain. Backdrop it with evergreen Doug firs and Western red cedars and you have an almost unbelievably vibrant setting for a walk in the woods. Click on pic for larger view.

Picture of the Week: St Honore Boulangerie
22 10 2012This pic is from a recent trip to the Saint Honore Boulangerie. I was lucky enough to be treated to a large sampling of pastries, soups, and salads as research for a write up on WhatstheSoup.Net. This is the Roasted Red Beet Salade, and it was amazing.

Picture of the Week: St Johns Bridge Sunset
15 07 2012The picture of the week comes a little early this time. I will be out of town and nowhere near internet come Monday. As a result, Sunset from beneath the St Johns Bridge is being delivered 2 days in advance. Thanks to my friend Kassisdy for putting down her dinner and driving me down to the bridge when I saw an epic sunset developing. Click on photo for larger image.
