My latest for Northwest Travel & Life is about a van camping trip my girlfriend and I took with a company called GoCamp. The short story is that the van and the trip were both spectacular. The long story can be found here, in the PDF version of the magazine story.

It’s rare that I am the subject of a story, as I’m usually the one authoring it. But this is one such instance, and a story I feel compelled to share in hopes of potentially helping other current and former addicts. Written by fellow writer and veteran, Marguerite Cleveland for Northwest Military, this story details the struggles with opiate and heroin addiction that ended my military career and almost ruined my writing career as well. It’s a very personal story with a hopeful and happy ending. Click here to read the online version.
This is a story that I wrote for Aspire, a digital publication put out by Visit Bellevue. I really like what they did with it – made the story sing! Click here to check it out.
I’ve always enjoyed NWR’s for their natural beauty and wildlife viewing opportunities. But I never really considered them as places that possess many viable hiking options. However, the pandemic caused me to reassess the things that I wanted in a hike. I always sought out things like solitude and lesser-visited trails – something that NWR’s always offer. But they also often provide miles of wide dirt, gravel, or maintenance road trails that are great for social distancing. And so this story idea was born from last year’s new-found appreciation of hiking in NWR’s. Click here to read it.
My new book, “Best Easy Day Hikes Salem and Eugene” comes out April 1st! Here’s kind of a sneak peek – the Shotgun Creek hike was featured last week in the Salem newspaper, the Statesman Journal. Click here to read the online version.
