A week or so ago I took a Press Trip to Washington County, Oregon. On day 1 we stopped in at 1910 Main – An American Bistro for lunch. They feature updated classic American cuisine that uses local ingredients. This right here…..this is the hand dipped, beer battered meatloaf with mashed Yukon potatoes, seasonal vegetable (green beans in this case), fried onions and beef reduction. I say I like a lot of things, but really, look at this thing. As awesome as it looks it tasted twice as good.

Northwest Travel Magazine: Courier Coffee
1 05 2013I wrote an article in the May edition of Northwest Travel Magazine about a place that I believe has the best Coffee in Portland. A bold statement I know, but give it the Pepsi Challenge sometime and get back to me if you take umbrage. Click here for the online teaser, or check out the latest edition of Northwest Travel Mag to read the whole piece.
From the article:
Courier Coffee Roasters does many things other elite Northwest roasters do. They focus on high-quality, single-origin beans, showcasing the terroir of specific regions. They have relationships with the farms and cooperatives from which they source. And they also focus on light and medium roasts. But Domreis’ shop ups the ante in all three aspects and then adds more to the pot.
“We want the best beans we can get,” says Domreis, “but we also source from people who are doing things the right way. Fair-trade and organic are great, but if they had to clear-cut acres of rainforest in order to do it, I’d rather source from a farm that’s not organic, but whose methods I know and trust.”

Picture of the Week: Tom McCall Preserve
8 04 2013I’m going to the well again for this week’s photo….The Tom McCall Preserve well. As the flowers are just starting to bloom in that area of the Gorge, the balsamroot and lupine should be in full throat in about another three weeks. Click photo for larger view.

Picture of the Week: Hiking Along the Clackamas River Trail
4 03 2013For the first time in the history of this website, the picture of the week was not taken by yours truly. But it was taken by my girlfriend, with my camera, and I’m in it. So it’s close. This is from last week’s hike along the Clackamas River Trail up to Pup Creek Falls. The trip served a few purposes: Get the GPS tracks of this hike for the Hiking Waterfalls in Oregon guidebook, and get photos of KEEN’s brand new line of CNX shoes and sandals for the company’s upcoming ad campaign. This was my first venture into the world of male modeling and I think I did well. I took direction like a champ and I kept my face out of the frame. Photo courtesy of Stephanie Paris.

Picture of the Week: Latourell Falls
18 02 2013This is not even remotely the first time Latourell Falls has appeared as the Picture of the Week. And I probably need to accept the fact that it won’t be the last. Some places, usually waterfalls, consistantly produce photos that are pleasing to me. And clearly, Latourell has some kind of mystical, photographic mojo that I am powerless to resist.
